Y Saulo asolaba la iglesia, y entrando casa por casa, arrastraba a hombres y a mujeres, y los entregaba en la cárcel

Romanos 6:19

Hablo como humano, por vuestra humana debilidad; que así como para iniquidad presentasteis vuestros miembros para servir a la inmundicia y a la iniquidad, así ahora para santificación presentad vuestros miembros para servir a la justicia.

La diferencia entre santificar las energías humanas y destruirlas. Saulo fue caracterizado indudablemente por tener una energía peculiar; ¿Cómo seria Pablo? Usted hallará que el apóstol cristiano conservó cada característica natural del perseguidor anticristiano. ¿Quién fue mas ardiente en amor, quién fue mas firme en el servicio que el apóstol Pablo? ¿Era él un pecador activo, o un santo indolente? ¿Cómo fue que Pablo sufrió el mismo tratamiento que le había ocasionado a otros? .Oiga sus palabras, y note si no se le acelera el flujo de su sangre: ¿Son ministros de Cristo? (Como si estuviera loco hablo.) Yo más; en trabajos más abundante; en azotes sin número; en cárceles más; en peligros de muerte muchas veces. De los judíos cinco veces he recibido cuarenta azotes menos uno. Tres veces he sido azotado con varas; una vez apedreado; tres veces he padecido naufragio; una noche y un día he estado como náufrago en alta mar; en caminos muchas veces; en peligros de ríos, peligros de ladrones, peligros de los de mi nación, peligros de los gentiles, peligros en la ciudad, peligros en el desierto, peligros en el mar, peligros entre falsos hermanos; en trabajo y fatiga, en muchos desvelos, en hambre y sed, en muchos ayunos, en frío y en desnudez”. ¡Como regresan los pecados de una persona sobre ella misma ¡ ¡Cuan segura es la disciplina y el Juicio de Dios! ¿Es fácil para un hombre que ha sido pecador convertirse en apóstol? ¡Jamás! Sentimos en la lectura de tales palabras cuan inexorable es la ley" Con la misma medida que ud mide, será medido. Pero note la energía del apóstol que sigue siendo igual que la energía del perseguidor. El cristianismo no destruye nuestro temperamento natural. Nos santificamos, no nos amortiguamos ni nos debilitamos.
Los cristianos se diferenciarán en el tono y la medida de su servicio. Al que mucho se le ha perdonado, mucho amará. ¿Cómo habla un esclavo que ha escapado sobre la libertad? De la misma forma los predicadores. La memoria de sus vidas pasadas determinará su predicación. No encadene a todos los hombres al mismo estilo. ¿Es nuestra energía cristiana igual a la energía que teníamos en el servicio del mundo? ¿Cuándo se quejó usted de que nunca podía a ir al teatro sin pagar, o cuando le dijo al diablo que su servicio era costoso? Teniendo en cuenta tales razones vamos a examinar nuestro temperamento y servicio cristiano. Este cambio en el corazón y la vida es lo que sugiere Pablo.

Romans 6:19

I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

The difference between sanctifying human energies and destroying them. Saul was undoubtedly characterized by peculiar energy; what will Paul be? You will find that the Christian apostle retained every natural characteristic of the anti-Christian Persecutor. Who so ardent in love, who so unswerving in service, as the apostle Paul? Was he an active sinner, but an indolent saint? How did he himself bear the treatment which he had inflicted upon others? Hear his words, and feel if they do not quicken the flow of your blood: “Are they ministers of Christ? I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft," etc. How a man's sins come back upon him! How sure is the discipline, and how terrible is the judgment of God! Can a man step easily from the rank of persecutor to the honor of apostle? Never! Heal Paul: " Even this present boor we both hunger and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the off scouring of all things," etc. We feel in reading such words how inexorable is the law—" With what measure ye mete it shall be measured to you again." But notice the energy of the apostle as being the same as the energy of the persecutor. Christianity does not destroy our natural temperament. We become sanctified, not deadened.
Christians will differ in the tone and measure of their service. He who has had much forgiven will love much. How does an escaped slave talk about liberty? So with preachers. The memory of their past lives will determine their preaching. Do not bind down all men to the same style.. Is our Christian energy equal to the energy with which we entered upon the service of the world? When did you complain that you could never go to the theatre without paying, or tell the devil that his service was costly? In the light of such inquiries let us examine our Christian temper and service. This change in the heart and life of Paul suggests
